I know what some of you are going to think after reading this post, “Kevin, you have too much time on your hands. Get a job sir!” Well I say to you – You’re going to thank me later, after enjoying a cup of Café Brazileira in your own home or at work.
To make café brazileira, you need 3 ingredients: water, coffee, and sugar. I’m brewing about a pint and a half of coffee today, ¾ L (metric), or 24 fluid ounces.
I fill my thermos with water, then transfer the water to my brewing pot, plus a little extra because some water will be trapped in the grounds in the filtering stage.
Next comes the coffee. Angela uses 3-4 heaping teaspoons of coffee grounds. I like my coffee a little stronger. I pour grounds into the brewing pot until I start to become scared of what I have just dome. Either way, it’s much more coffee than I am used to using.
Last add the sugar. I use a quarter-cup of sugar in my batch. Some people like their coffee a little sweeter, I don’t. Often times, I don’t like any sugar at all.
Heat the mixture and stir periodically until it starts to bubble a little on the sides, no more or you might end up with a bitter cup of coffee.
Filter just like you normally would. Bam, café braileira. It’s as strong as the Turkish stuff, but without the sludge. I’m sold. I’ll only be brewing coffee this way from now on.
